Our Mid-Life Crisis Through Europe

Mama Mia!

Once we were able to escape from Venice, we found ourselves in Rome.  We explored the city some and saw many of the beautiful monuments scattered around the city.  Of course, we did the typical touristy stuff:  visited the Colloseum, Vatican city, and ate pizza and pasta.

But, what also made this part our trip different is that my mother met us there to visit Italy and France with us!

Upon her arrival, we went to meet the owner of an apartment we rented.  We walked uphill and up a massive flight of stairs with our big ol' backpacks and my mother's luggage, just to sit and wait for an owner that never came.  More than an hour later, Luke had to walk to find a pay phone (yes, they still exist), but could not get through to the owner.  Instead, we had to instantly find a hotel and take an expensive taxi across town.  What an awful day (and my mother's first experience here in Rome).

Otherwise, our stay was enjoyable, though Rome was very hot and the climate reminded me very much of Florida as it was so humid (YUCK).  Once we got past that experience, it was a lovely stay in the hot city.

Here are some pics:

But the most interesting thing I saw, was Raptor Pope:
